Mission and Vision

Mission

Our department trains Turkish language teachers for the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades of elementary schools. In this regard, our mission is based, on the one hand, on the Turkish language as a native language and, on the other hand, on the principles of teaching. As is well known, the native language is the center of thought, just as it is the center of everything else. Teaching, meanwhile, is the most important profession for preserving and enhancing all forms of existing knowledge and passing them on to future generations. In this sense, the responsibility borne by our students—who will instill an awareness of and love for the native language in young people attending elementary schools—defines the core axis of the Department’s mission. The primary and greatest objective of our department is to: foster a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding Turkish as the native language, enabling students to resist any form of corruption of the language; help students understand Turkish within its historical and cultural context; ensure the simultaneous and long-term transmission of Turkish as a national heritage; equip students with the ability to use Turkish correctly in both written and spoken communication, to enable students to embrace and promote Turkish as a way of learning, teaching, and living, and to educate and train Turkish language teachers who will educate young people in elementary schools with a strong sense of linguistic awareness and a love for the language. The aspect of our department’s mission rooted in the concept of teaching is to cultivate a type of teacher who, while upholding the experience-based values of the past, remains open to innovation. This type of teacher is capable of analyzing and synthesizing knowledge rather than merely memorizing it, and of applying it rather than merely storing it; they are self-confident, capable of engaging in discussion and offering criticism, able to accurately perceive themselves and their surroundings, aware of their rights and responsibilities, maintain healthy relationships with their environment, and are constructive and productive individuals who and who instills this same awareness in their students.

Our graduates will be able to teach Turkish to both foreigners and Turkish nationals; as teachers capable of effective communication, taking on social responsibility, having internalized national values, respecting universal values, and possessing a sense of citizenship, they will be able to generate solutions to social problems; and, with their artistic and cultural competence, will be equipped to analyze works in various literary and informative genres, such as novels, short stories, poetry, screenplays, articles, and essays.

Vision

To become a leading department in its field by carrying out work in line with our mission.
