On October 20, 2016, as part of the Community Service Practices course, third-year students from our department visited the Bakırköy Municipality Şefkat Nursing Home under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Talat Aytan. Throughout the visit, the nursing home’s social services specialist, doctors, and staff accompanied our students as they engaged in various conversations with the residents and provided them with information. At the end of the day, which brought great joy to both our students and the nursing home residents, one of our students, Nur İpek Toprak, expressed her feelings as follows: “We baked our cakes and pastries and went to visit them. I met an auntie who was as sweet as can be. Our conversations were wonderful. One of the ladies, in particular, had Elif and me laughing so hard we couldn’t stop. We were both very happy, and so were they. We promised to come back again. Next time, we’ll bring french fries and stuffed grape leaves.” We hope that this kind of gathering between our young people—the architects of our future—and our elders, who built our past, will serve as an example for all other young people.
